When you first hear about DeviceInfo, you might think it’s just another file format to develop and support. But that’s not the case! DeviceInfo is a translation of files you’ve already created - no extra development needed. It’s built from the EDDs you already maintain, and today’s tools automatically generate the DeviceInfo file during the build process, making it easy to integrate with modern, network-connected devices. |

What Does DeviceInfo Do? DeviceInfo isn’t a replacement for the EDD, nor does it translate the entire EDD into a JSON-encoded file. Instead, it provides additional metadata to support runtime analytics. This includes key use cases as defined in NAMUR NE176, such as Unique Identification, Multivariable Process Value support, and Device Health Monitoring.
DeviceInfo enhances your existing data without adding complexity. DeviceInfo files for HART devices can be automatically created and placed in the FDI Device Package using the FDI IDE. |

Unlocking Hidden Value Your EDD files and FDI Packages already contain a wealth of information about your registered products. DeviceInfo simply unlocks that data for lightweight systems - like dashboards, cloud applications, and advanced analytics - by preprocessing the EDDs and making key data available at runtime. It’s an efficient way to tap into data that’s already there without changing your core processes. As an added bonus, the JSON format of DeviceInfo files make them human readable, so your customers can easily understand information like the device variables in your product and use that information for advanced applications.
