There are three applications for HART Modems and two distinct types of modems employed in the testing of HART field devices. In all instances, a Registered HART Modem is mandatory for testing during the product development phase and when preparing to submit the device to FieldComm Group labs. |
1. FSK Physical Layer Testing
A special HART Modem with a gain adjustment is required to run the FSK Physical Layer tests found in FCG_TT20002{3.0}. This specialized HART Modem is included in the HART Physical Layer Test Kit. |
2. Token Passing Data Link Layer Testing
The most sensitive test cases executed via the HART Test System are in the realm of the DLL. Using a Registered HART Modem which conforms to the HART Protocol specifications is key to avoiding false failures, which leads to additional debugging and troubleshooting time. | 3. Application Layer Testing Communication disruptions resulting from bit errors caused by non-conformant modems can significantly impact your testing environment. Avoid wasted time chasing setup issues by only using registered HART Modems with the HART Test System.

FieldComm Group test labs can only certify the results are accurate when two registered RS-232 modems are used. Please note that many companies manufacturer RS-232 modems but only the HART-Registered Modems are guaranteed to be conformant to the HART Protocol specifications and will operate correctly with our tools. Start your testing with the proper equipment to streamline your efforts! FieldComm Group offers an Add-On Pack with two registered HART Modems to provide a convenient way to get the gear you need for pre-testing your field devices. |
