FieldComm Group hosts a Repository of registered FDI Packages and Device Description files. End users can download these registered files from the Product Registry.

The .fdix file you download from the "FDI Package" button on the product page is the FDI Package, however a Windows PC will see this and probably default this type of file to the "WINZIP.exe" application. The downloaded FDI Package therefore appears like a .zip file to the operating system. The .fdix file structure is a special type of compressed file format that falls under the Open Packaging Conventions, similar to the widely known .zip file.

To resolve this on your PC, you need to associate .fdix files with the FDI RRTE Client application. You must have the FDI Reference Runtime Environment installed on your PC before Windows can make this application association change.

First, rename the file's extension from .zip to .fdix.

Here's how to change the default program in Windows 7 (only 64-bit OS supported):
  1. Open Default Programs by clicking the Start button and then clicking Default Programs.
  2. Choose Associate a file type or protocol with a program option.
  3. Scroll down and select .fdix, then Change program... (top right of the window).
  4. A dialog appears, expand the "Other Programs" section and select the FDI Client application.

Windows 10 has changed these menu options:

  1. Go to Settings, then Default apps
  2. Go to Choose default apps by file type
  3. Scroll for .fdix file type and set the Default app to the FDI.Reference.Client

If the .fdix file type is not listed:

  1. Go to a folder containing an FDI Device Package on your PC.
  2. Right-click on the file, it may look like a zip archive at this point. Go to Properties.
  3. Click on Opens with... Change button and search for the FDI.Reference.Client application

If this procedure was successful, the icon next to the .fdix files will change to the FDI Technology logo:
